HORSES AND PONIES AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION                                                 (ages and heights correct when updated - December 2015)

Our primary objective here at L.H.P.R is to re-home the horses and ponies that pass through our gate into suitable, caring and loving homes. These equines in many cases have been fully rehabilitated.

We encourage all horse lovers to consider the option of rehoming a horse or pony from our facility. It is always a hugely rewarding experience.  More than ever we need long term homes for our horses and ponies.   If you are in a position to give a loving home to one of our beautiful rescues, do get in touch by filling out our loan home application form

Rehoming is what makes our work possible. We are not a sanctuary and we need to rehome the animals in our care and quickly as possible to make room for new arrivals.

Once this form is completed we will be in touch if we have something that is suitable, to arrange a home visit.

All our horses & ponies have been fully vetted, are microchipped with a valid passport, wormed, vaccinated (tet and flu), deliced and will have their feet and teeth done before going out to their new home.

PLEASE NOTE WE REQUEST A NON REFUNDABLE DONATION OF â‚¬300 (Non Refundable) FOR REHOMING L.H.P.R HORSES & PONIES. THE MONEY RAISED WILL BE TREATED AS A DONATION & WILL GO TOWARDS THE RUNNING COSTS OF OUR EQUINE WELFARE CENTRE. WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT WE CANNOT CONTINUE

THE WORK THAT WE DO.

Step 1: Choose a horse/pony (or horses)

Simply select the one(s) you would like to offer a home to. Please be mindful of the horse's location as you will likely need to travel to the location to meet, and then pick up the horse if your application is successful.

Step 2: Apply online

Once you have selected your horse(s), click the 'Apply to Rehome' button to go to our short online form. To help ensure a successful rehoming, we make sure there is a match between what you need from the horse, and what the horse needs from you. So you will be asked a few questions about where you would keep the horse, the grazing available, and how you intend to use the horse. We will also ask for your address and contact details. Then click the button to submit your application.

L.H.P.R are committed in complying with legislation, therefore we will only adopt animals out to people who have an Equine Premises Registration Number issued officially by the Department Of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and the Marine (DAFM). More on this can be found by clicking HERE.

Step 3: Assessment of application - matching horse to rehomer

Your online application will then be assessed by our team. You will then receive an email indicating whether your application has been shortlisted, or if it has been unsuccessful on this occasion. Sometimes, if your answers in the online form do not match the stated needs of the horse as outlined on the website (e.g. you want a companion horse but have no other horses), you may get an email automatically telling you that your application has been unsuccessful.

You will then fill in our full application form which asks for a small bit more detail about the land, stabling and your experience.

Step 4: Meet the horse

If it's a suitable match, we will call you and ask you to visit the centre in order to meet the horse, before making any decisions. This could be done in one trip, or may involve several trips to the centre to get to know the horse and ensure that the best possible match is found. If you wish to rehome a companion horse, we strongly prefer that you visit the centre to meet it before you take it on but in some cases we can be flexible about this so please call us if you have any questions. In some cases you will be able to ride out the horse in question.

Step 5: Home visit

At some point during the application process, one of our friendly welfare officers will visit you and the space where you intend to keep the horse to ensure its safety and suitability. Like other welfare organisations, we check to make sure you have the essentials in place to keep the horse healthy and well-cared for.

The relationship between you and your local welfare officer is ongoing, as s/he will be the first port of call if you need advice or any problem should arise with the horse or pony. Our welfare officers (and in some areas rehoming officers), will visit you once or twice per year to answer any questions you may have and generally make sure everything is running smoothly. These visits can be unannounced.

Step 6: Take the horse home

Once your application and home visit have been successful, you can take the horse(s) home. You will be given a rehoming pack, which is a record of all the worming, shoeing and vaccinations the horse has received. You will also sign a contract/agreement which concludes the application process.

HOW IT WORKS?

GUINNESS
Height: 12hh | Age: Born 2014 | Sex: Gelding

Guinness is a lovely little chap with a really sweet disposition. He gets along with our golden oldie Primrose and he is such a friendly, sociable pony. Considering he was an abuse case and was terrified of people when he came into us in May 2014, Guinness enjoys human contact and he wants to please. He is well mannered for his age but he will need regular handling to maintain his good behaviour. In the right hands Guinness has the potential to make a delightful ridden pony when he is older. We expect him to make 13hh. We are looking for an experienced rehomer who has broken in horses in the past and who can give Guinness a solid foundation to his ridden career.

HOLLY
Height: 12.2hh | Age: Born 2005 | Sex: Mare

Holly is a stunning mare. She is the mother of Bella. She came into L.H.P.R as a welfare rescue. She is well handled but to date has not been backed. She should go on to make a nice riding pony. Sweet nature and is now ready for re-homing. She is 10 years old, 12.2hh and is a mare.

MAVERICK
Height: 12.2hh | Age: Born 2013 | Sex: Geld

Maverick came into our centre alongside his Mother Goose. He was only one week old. Since his arrival he has been weaned, castrated and begun handling to which he has taken to with a bright and lively interest. His main interest is food and he will do anything in the whole world for a single nut! Maverick is a handsome young man currently standing at 12.2hh and is now looking for a home with someone who will continue his education and bring him on with his handling. Maverick is a typical youngster who is nosey and bright and full of fun and he will need to have someone quiet and calm and used to dealing with youngsters to bring out his confidence and remind him of his manners, as sometimes he thinks he is a superhero! He is good with the vet and farrier though still needs reassurance and is good to live out all year, stand in a stable and is friendly with other horses. For the future we are looking for a home where Maverick can mature and lead an active life, potentially as a riding pony, but as long as he is happy and healthy he doesn’t need a home that requires him to be ridden.

Sadly his mother Goose died in Augut 2014 due to a fetlock injury and when both were rescued she was very weak and produced little milk. Therefore Maverick needed to be bottle fed sometimes and we believe this is the reason for his small size. Goose was 15hh and we expect Maverick to make 14hh.
