SERVICES
Between the months of November - January (earlier and later if needed) LHPR will deliver hay and water to horses in need of it. These are horses that for various reasons we are unable to take into our care but we will monitor them onsite providing the necessary care they need. We will of course at all times try to work with the owner(s).
OUR LIFE SAVING WORK CONSISTS OF THREE STEPS...
RESCUE
We are what we are - A rescue charity for horses and ponies. LHPR currently operates out of a rented premises in Trim, Co Meath. Here we have stabling and grazing facilities for any horse or pony that needs to be admitted to our rescue centre.
LHPR must prioritise and are usually only able to deal with genuine emergencies.
Many of the horses and ponies seized and rescued by LHPR require long periods of rehabilitation. Whether they are emaciated, sick, injured or mentally abused we have a dedicated team of equine carers to bring these animals back to full health so that they can join our rehoming programme. While LHPR operates a strict no kill policy we do sometimes have to make the difficult decision to put an animal to sleep if its suffering beyond help or is injured beyond veterinary help.

THE LHPR (CARA'S) TACK SHACK
To help fight equine cruelty in Ireland LHPR have launched CARA'S Tack Shack. It is a FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE to help raise funds to fund our frontline services!!
The new & second hand tack shack is located at the LHPR rescue yard in Trim and stocks new and second hand items such as riding hats, rugs, boots, saddle pads and lots more!!
The shop is now in memory to CARA, our first rescue horse and mascot. Cara is the reason why LHPR is here today. Sadly Cara passed away in September 2015 and we have now decided to dedicate the shop in her memory.
Its open Wednesday evenings, Saturday mornings and by appointment all other times.

REHABILITATION
Once rescued by LHPR, the rescued equine will be brought to the LHPR rescue yard in Trim, typically by the LHPR Horse Ambulance where its treatment will begin.
We aim to rehabiliate our animals to a level where they can be placed in new homes and be brought on further.
Our dedicated team of equine carers nurse them back to ful health and start to train them for riding careers in the future.
3
REHOMING
Our primary objective here at LHPR is to re-home the horses and ponies that pass through our gate into suitable, caring and loving homes. These equines in many cases have been fully rehabilitated.
We encourage all horse lovers to consider the option of rehoming a horse or pony from our facility. It is always a hugely rewarding experience. More than ever we need long term homes for our horses and ponies. If you are in a position to give a loving home to one of our beautiful rescues, do get in touch by filling out our loan home application form.
Rehoming is what makes our work possible. We are not a sanctuary and we need to rehome the animals in our care and quickly as possible to make room for new arrivals.
Once this form is completed we will be in touch if we have something that is suitable, to arrange a home visit.
PLEASE NOTE WE REQUEST A DONATION OF €300 FOR REHOMING LHPR HORSES & PONIES. THE MONEY RAISED WILL BE TREATED AS A DONATION & WILL GO TOWARDS THE RUNNING COSTS OF OUR EQUINE WELFARE CENTRE. WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT WE CANNOT CONTINUE THE WORK THAT WE DO.
